Skaneateles Lake, New York

Skaneateles Lake is a 16 mile long lake located in central New York. As one of the Finger Lakes, Skaneateles Lake is often referred to as “The Roof Garden of the Lakes” because its altitude is higher than the other Finger Lakes.

Skaneateles Lake has an average width of 0.75 miles, a total surface area of 13.6 square miles, and a maximum depth of 315 feet.

Skaneateles Lake is located in Onondaga, Cayuga, and Cortland Counties. The water is the cleanest of all the Finger Lakes and is so pure that it is used by the city of Syracuse and other municipalities unfiltered.

The lake is a popular recreation spot for boating, sailing, and fishing. The Skaneateles Country Club has a popular boating center. There is a New York state public boat launch site located on the west side of the lake. The town of Spafford has a public boat launch near Borodino on the east side of the lake. Glen Haven, at the head of the lake offers a marina and docking.
