Basic things that must be done no matter what are: give the walls a fresh coat of paint. If you do not have the time and can afford to have someone do it for you, then make sure to wash them very well. This makes one of the biggest cosmetic differences to your home. Things like carpet, tiles, even the grout between the tiles should sparkle without exception. A simple rule to follow is: if it can be cleaned it should be, and if can be cleaner or sparkle a little more than it should.
