Open Question: Do you like my short story? It is based slightly on my life? Should I get it published?
It was at that moment, at that very moment, surrounded by thick, dark clouds and feeling the wind against his pink cheeks, that he realised it. He realised he was not like everyone else. Unlike most people, he had never known happiness. He had read about it in books and had heard people speak about it, but it was a feeling he had never felt. It was a cold winter, perhaps the coldest one he had, in eightteen years, ever witnessed, and his consumption, which was slowly ending his life, was certainly not helping the utter feeling of emptiness.
”Another cup of tea?” The servant girl, Elisa, asked.
He looked at her and smiled. It was time to set her free.
”Remove that servant hat, Elisa, and leave the mansion. You are now your own woman. Enjoy your life, my dear! Enjoy your life!” He said, his voice tainted by the disease, getting up and shaking his blood-stained tissue, the way a woman of the Tudor period would shake her handkerchief for her man.
”Emile,” she said in tears. ”You are a saint. You are a beautiful man. A beautiful, beautiful man.”
”I know,” he whispered, smiling. She was blinded by the whiteness of his perfect teeth.
He looked at her walk out of the house. He felt a bit sad, of course, but realised it was a good thing to do, for people were not like animals and couldn’t be kept.
I suppose I should take a walk around the property, he said to himself, putting on a long, black peacoat. He spent a few minutes walking in the garden and then noticed a head and two shoulders. He walked towards it. It was a woman, still alive, but frozen inside a lake. Her entire body was captured by the ice, but her head and shoulders were out… and surprisingly alive.
”Young man,” she whispered, her lips blue. ”Help me.”
”Child,” he said. ”Do tell me what’s wrong.”
”A man,” she said tearing up, ”Said he wanted me to pose for him. He asked me to get naked and to sit in the lake. He wanted to paint my shame. Then, when the painting was done, I tried getting out of the lake, but a rock is stuck on my foot. The lake then froze and I’ve been living on small rodents. They come here, perhaps to eat me, but I eat them first.”
”Woman of shame,” he said. ”Be out! Be out of the lake right now!”
She shut her eyes in despair and when she reopened them, she was tucked in a large, comfortable bed, a small fire cracking in the fireplace… The Good Man next to her. ”Woman of shame,” he said again. ”You are naked. It will be fixed! Yes, it will be fixed!” He pulled the sheets off and she was dressed. ”It was fixed! It was fixed!” She threw herself at his feet and wrapped her arms around his legs. ”You Good Man,” she cried. ”You have saved me.” ”Yes, I have,” Emile said. ”I have saved you and you shall forever be…” He coughed. He felt very sick and could no longer breathe. Before he knew it, he was on the floor. The last sight he saw before departing was the eyes of that former sinner looking back at him alarmingly. He knew he had been a good person and had done good deeds… He, for the first time, felt happy.
Two days later, he was buried in a crypt under The Emile Church of Love and Forgiveness, which had been built by no other than the former servant girl, Elisa. He never lived to see that. Years after his death, he was declared a Saint by the regning Pope. He never lived to see that.

Voting Question: I need some advice about my 81 year old father inlaw!!!?
My father in law is a very hard person to deal with. He treats no-one with respect. He is not someone that I trust. He and my wife own a house together that they bought a couple of years ago. In the two and one half years he has lived there alone he has almost detroyed what is a very nice lake front property. Now he is wanting to sell it and wants us to buy a place together with him so we can be close by him to help take care of him. Although he gets around well. The new house deal will pay off all his debt and we will assume the mortgage. Nobody, not even his other children get along with him. He is very overbearing. I told my wife I don’t think this is a wise idea, but she thinks if we set boundaries he will abide by them. He hasn’t to this point and I don’t think he will in the future. My wife has a sizable investment and has some say so in the matter.Does anyone have any advice???
